TMJ Can Effect the Entire Body
Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is a hinge joint where the jawbone is connected to your skull. Although TMJ can be painful and often is accompanied by headaches, many patients are without jaw pain yet still present TMJ symptoms. The symptoms may include jaw popping, clicking, limitations in opening mouth fully, jaw locking open, or grinding teeth at night.
Jaw and facial pain are conditions are a specialty on their own. There is an underlying reason why your jaw presents with a disfunction. Using Postural Restoration therapy, the jaw influences head and neck position as well as the ability to move, think and breathe. The position and movement of the TMJ effects the entire body, not just the TMJ itself.
Common Symptoms:
- Headaches/Migraines
- Tinnitus/Ear Ringing
- Suboccipital Tension
- Jaw locking/popping/tenderness
- Difficulty Chewing
- Facial Pain
- Pain Around the Ear
- Clenching/Bruxing/Grinding
Now I’m headache free and have full use of my arms without pain! I no longer have facial pain or jaw popping. Dizziness is 75% gone but I’ve had days without dizziness at all. I can go upstairs without being winded. I have more energy at work and home. In the past, I had EXTREME fatigue all over my body. I would have to sit often because of the fatigue. Now I can stand longer at work and home. I used to lay down nightly because I couldn’t hold up my head. Those days are gone. I knew all these symptoms were connected but I did not know how to “fix” it myself. Thanks to Taylor Creek PT and using Postural Restoration, I now have my old self back."
We were referred to Kristi Jagels at Taylor Creek Physical Therapy for postural restoration. At our initial meeting, she asked questions about the headaches, her dental history, sports activities, etc. After looking her over, Kristi started her on exercises to improve her breathing. Her headache was completely gone. She also showed her how to rest her tongue and jaw. Halie could take deep breaths and her headache would go away. You could see the relief on her face that she had a break from the headaches. We look forward to working with Taylor Creek Physical Therapy for continued improvement.
This was one of the most amazing things I’ve seen. As a parent, it’s hard to have your child be in pain and not know what to do about it (besides over-medicate). We are grateful that her medical tests did not show any problems. We are more than grateful that we’ll be able to get a solution for her headaches."
